Juancho Hernangomez’s season has not been easy. The winger started the 2021/22 season in Boston, where he was hardly used by Ime Udoka (18 matches, 5.3 minutes). So he was sent to San Antonio in mid-January, as part of the three-team transfer that sent Bol Bol to Boston and Bryn Forbes to Denver.
In Texas, the Spaniard didn’t have a chance either, appearing only five times, for 50 minutes in total. So he packed his bags again, just two weeks later, heading to Utah in another three-team transfer, between the Jazz, Spurs and Blazers.
In Salt Lake City, Juancho Hernangomez finally got playing time, with 17.5 minutes in 17 games (including 9 starts), for averages of 6.2 points and 3.5 rebounds (43.8% three-pointers on 2.8 attempts). Simple element brought back from a transfer which mainly brought Nickeil Alexander-Walker to Jazz, the Spanish player finally proved to be a good surprise in Quin Snyder’s rotation.
In any case, he has the feeling of having done the job during his short stay at the club. The rest is not up to him, but he assures that the uncertainty he currently finds himself in does not stress him out.
« I don’t really care about my contractual situation. I haven’t even started to think about next season said the 26-year-old. ” I am still in the process of evaluating my season, analyzing the lines of work for this summer. So I can’t say that I’m really stressed about my contract. I did my best, the rest is not mine, we’ll see. »
Will stay ? Won’t stay? Hard to predict at the moment as the winger’s contract, worth $6.6 million, is not guaranteed. The Jazz have until June 30 to decide their fate, and we imagine that the Spaniard will not necessarily be a priority, in an off-season that promises to be potentially eventful in Salt Lake City…
