“I’ve wanted to do it since I was a child”, Pujols talks excited about his debut as a pitcher

Albert Pujols’ career has been full of achievements throughout his 22 seasons in the Major Leagues, although it was not until May 16 when one of the most long-awaited moments for the Dominican originated.

With a “powerful” speed of 47 miles per hour, Pujols made su debut from the mound of scares, which, said by himself, marks one of his greatest life dreams.

Pujols took the mound for the space of one inning, although it was not a sensational performance at all after having allowed four runs and three hits, which has caused many fans to see as disrespectful to his memory and career that the player has been taken to the mound, although for the Dominican it was the opposite.

“I have wanted to do that (throwing) since I was a child”Albert confessed with a laugh while being trimmed in a barbershop, an audiovisual collected by the La Vida Baseball portal, about what was his brief and perhaps unrepeatable moment as a pitcher.

Having acted as a pitcher served Pujols to take his name once again to the Major League history books, who at 42 years and 119 days at the time of his pitching work, joins Lena Blackburne in 1929 as the players oldest at the time of pitching for the first time in MLB since 1901.

However, that dreamy moment is something that “La Maquina” was not fully prepared for, indicating that only a couple of days before he had spoken with his teammate, Yadier Molina, about the subject.

“Did you know? Yadi and I were talking two or three days ago and I told him ‘crazy, if one of these games is one-side (with a lot of run advantage), this is what we are going to do, we are going to prepare our pitches’ and look, two days later I am pitching”, he said.

But, one point that did stand out was how sore he was after his relief performance, in which he threw 27 pitches.

“Yes indeed, I have a pain in my arm boy, oh my God! Hey, arm pain, waist, back, shoulder”, assured the future member of the Hall of Fame.
