Former Wimbledon winner Michael Stich opens the first exhibition in Düsseldorf’s Paffrath gallery

“I hope that people are honest if they like something or don’t like something,” said Stich to the “Hamburger Abendblatt”: “The nice thing is to see what other people see in my pictures. And how thoughts arise when talking about art that I wasn’t aware of before.” According to the newspaper, pictures measuring 120 by 120 centimeters cost 8,000 euros. The works were created in his studio in Hamburg.

Stich stated that he was interested in art as an active tennis player when he was in his mid-20s. “I often used breaks in tournaments to look at exhibitions,” he said. “It was a good distraction from the game and an interesting pastime.”

His works also contain references to tennis, such as the work “no doubt”, which was created in 2012.
