English Football Association and Everton open investigation into Richarlison after incident with flare

The English Football Association (FA) and Everton FC are both opening an investigation into an incident involving Everton striker Richarlison during a match against Chelsea. The Brazilian attacker threw a flare that had been thrown on the field into the stands of Goodison Park after his winning goal in the 46th minute. Richarlison was not penalized by referee Kevin Friend during the match. The English Football Association is now opening an investigation into the incident. Pyrotechnics are banned in English football stadiums. In February, the FA Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott called out after he threw a red flare during the Carabao Cup final in Wembley.

Everton is also opening its own investigation. “We are going to look into the incident,” the club said, who did not seem to attach too much importance to the incident. “As far as we’re concerned, Richarlison was just trying to throw the flare off the field,” said a club spokesperson. Everton are currently in a relegation battle in the Premier League. Last weekend it won 1-0 against Chelsea, where Romelu Lukaku remained on the bench for 90 minutes. The club from Liverpool is 18th and two points behind Leeds and Burnley, numbers 17 and 16 respectively. Everton still have one game left.
