In the same church that had hosted the farewell to Asia Nasoni – another very young broken life, in the tragedy of the Blue Lantern in Corinaldo – the Marottese community attended the funeral celebrated by Don Steven Carboni, parish priest of Fossombrone and who grew up as a boy in the youth teams of Marotta basketball, coached by the same coaches he had as a boy Sciarrini, Enzo Belloni and Massimo Montesi. Hundreds and hundreds of people crowded with masks inside the church, as many outside in the churchyard followed with the loudspeakers. Present were the mayor Nicola Barbieri, the deputy mayor Carlo Diotallevi, the Marotta teammates, the Red Cross volunteers and many young people who met Andrea thanks to basketball.

Heartbreaking pain and tears of his wife Ilaria who at the end of the funeral in tears was supported by her father Stefano Seri. Don Steven started a dialogue with Andrea, recounting in the homily how he learned the news and giving a reading of the facts which is an advice to trust in the love of God. “God is father and mother and in this moment Andrea you are with Jesus , the coach who only he can teach us to team up with each other. I was in Fossombrone when I learned what had happened – said the priest – That day there was the reading of the passage of the fishermen in which Jesus invites us to trust in casting the nets on the right side. Andrea, many beautiful things have been said these days, even useless things. What matters is not the length of life, but the intensity with which we live day after day. Your passion is clear: basketball. The courage and authenticity of the choices in making a family and carrying it on. Yours – continued Don Steven to the young basketball player – was a kind good humor, on your face there was always kindness and a smile. Now, your coach is Jesus, the bread of life ».

The tragedy shook everyone. The church was not enough to contain the huge influx of faithful who followed the funeral half an hour before the start. Among the audience were the coach Enzo Belloni, today councilor in Pesaro, the lieutenant Giuseppe Zocchi of the Marotta carabinieri station, Luciano Seri president of the CRI committee and Gabriele Vitali of the Marotta Unita committee. Hundreds of young people crowded outside. On the coffin the basketball team jersey and the ball. His exit from the church accompanied by applause that never ended in “Sciarro”.
