African Judo Championship 2022: Three new gold medals for Algeria

The Algerians had already won four gold medals in the first two days of the championship by Aissahine, Halata, Belkadi and Driss Messaoud.

The Algerian selection (men/women) of judo won six new medals, during the 3rd and last day of the individual events of the 43rd edition of the senior African championship, disputed on Saturday at the Mohamed-Benahmed Convention Center in Oran. Algerian judokas Ouallal Kaouthar (-78 kg), Benamadi Abderrahmane (-90 kg) and Sofiane Mohamed Belrekraa (+100 kg) won three gold medals. In the final, the Algerian Ouallal Kaouthar (-78 kg) won ahead of the Cameroonian Arry Sophina Ayuk, while Benamadi Abderrahmane (-90 kg) dominated the South African Breytenbach Thomas and Belekraa Sofiane Mohamed (+100 kg) took over the Tunisian Hdiouch Walid. For their part, Bouamar Mustapha (-100 kg) won the silver medal, Mammeri Meroua and Asselah Sonia settled for bronze in the over 78 kg category. As a reminder, the Algerians had won four other gold medals during the first two days of the championship by Faïza Aissahine (-52 kg), Halata Yamina (-57 kg), Belkadi Amina (-63 kg), and Driss Messaoud Re Customs ( -73kg). The other Algerian medals were the work of Souad Bellakehal (-70 kg) and Zourdani Houd (-73 kg) for silver, while Rezzoug Imene (-48 kg), Yagoub Younes (-60 kg) and Benazoug Aghiles Imad ( -81kg) won bronze each in their category. With seven individual titles for a total of fifteen medals (seven gold, three silver and five bronze), the Algerian team occupies first place in the general standings ahead of Tunisia with nine medals (three gold, four silver and two in bronze). Morocco completes the podium with a total of eight medals (one gold, two silver and five bronze).
