Vos wins the third stage of the Vuelta Femenina and Vas saves the lead for a second

MADRID, 30 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Dutch cyclist Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike) won this Tuesday the third stage of the Women’s Cycling Tour of Spain by Carrefour, held between Lucena (Alicante) and Teruel, 130 kilometers away, ahead of her compatriot Charlote Kool (DSM-firmenich PostNL) and the Canadian Olivia Baril (Movistar), while the Hungarian Blanka Vas (SD Worx-Protime) maintains the lead for one second precisely over Vos.

The great protagonist of the day was the Spanish Mireia Benito, who fled alone practically the entire stage, until she was caught up by the peloton with 7.5 kilometers remaining. The AG Insurance-Soudal Team had a five-minute advantage that made them dream of victory, but the push from behind by Visma-Lease a Bike ended the adventure of the Spanish time trial champion.

The three-time world road champion achieved her 252nd victory as a professional, establishing herself as the cyclist who has raised her arms the most times. In the second stage, a fall less than three kilometers from the finish line deprived her of the chance to compete for victory, but on this third day nothing could stop the most successful cyclist in history, who at 36 years old continues to demonstrate impressive level.

“Very happy, yesterday we worked hard, but the crash at the end didn’t let us. Today we did it again. The girls have done very hard work, and I am super happy for this victory for them,” said the stage winner. Vos stressed that the important thing was “to stay in a good position in the final part, and avoid falls, which are part of the race,” Vos declared.

Only one second separates him from the leadership that continues to be owned by Vas, who commands the general classification ahead of Vos and the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek). In the mountain jersey, the Dutch Karlijn Swinkels (UAE Team ADQ) remains the leader despite the points won by Benito, who rises to second place. In the points, Vas maintains the advantage, with Alison Jackson (EF-Cannondale) and Vos behind.

In this context, the falls on the second day had left Emma Norsgaard (Movistar), Anna Henderson (Visma), Clara Edmont (EF-Cannondale), Marta Cavalli (FDJ -SUEZ) and Sabrina Stultiens (VolkerWessels) out of action.

The Spanish round will face its fourth stage this Wednesday, starting in Molina de Aragón (Guadalajara) and ending in Zaragoza, a flat day without scoring passes and that will presumably be resolved again in the sprint, which may be the last opportunity for the sprinters. in this Women’s Tour.
