Termination of contract: BG Göttingen and Jake Toolson go their separate ways

The basketball Bundesliga team BG Göttingen and its player Jake Toolson are going their separate ways with immediate effect. The violets have agreed to terminate the contract with the US Guard. The 26-year-old, his wife and two children have already left Göttingen and were on their way to the USA from Amsterdam on Thursday morning.

Toolson suffered a concussion after a collision with Canada’s Owen Klassen during the game in Braunschweig on April 3, and he is still dealing with the consequences. The club and the players therefore agreed on an early end of the season and the associated termination of the contract. “We hope that Jake will recover quickly and wish him and his family all the best for their future,” says BG Managing Director Frank Meinertshagen. Of course, this contract extension is inconvenient at this time. “We miss him a lot. But health comes first.” A concussion is not something to be trifled with, he knows of examples that – because they returned too early – could no longer have practiced competitive sport. “Jake hadn’t trained for three weeks, it would have been difficult for him to resume his role anyway,” says Meinertshagen.

For Toolson, who switched to the violets in the summer, Göttingen was the first post-college posting abroad. He’s become one of the most confident three-pointers in the league. The American played 26 league games and one cup game for the Göttingen side. On average, the family man was on the floor for around 26 minutes per game, scored an average of 11.8 points, hit 45 percent of his three-point attempts and was one of the top performers in the team of BG head coach Roel Moors.
