The President of the Government, Francina Armengol, and the Vice President and Minister for Energy Transition, Productive Sectors and Democratic Memory, Juan Pedro Yllanes, have inaugurated this morning a new edition of the Palma International Boat Show at the Moll Vell in Palma. The nautical fair, which can be visited until May 1, is organized by the Institute of Business Innovation of the Balearic Islands (IDI), an entity dependent on the Vice Presidency and Ministry of Energy Transition, Productive Sectors and Democratic Memory, and the Balearic Yacht Brokers Association (BYBA).

The new edition of the Palma International Boat Show has 276 participating companies, six more than in 2019 and 49 more than last year, a fact that represents an increase of 21% compared to 2021.

In addition, a total of 264 boats will be exhibited at sea.

President Armengol thanked the event organizers for their role in “consolidate a nautical fair at an international level” and recalled that “from the Government we are very clear about our commitment to economic diversification and our commitment to the nautical sector, which gives added value to our economy”.

Armengol also explained that, along these lines, professional training in the nautical field has been promoted and that it will continue to be invested through European funds because “We need highly trained human capital for an industry that is at the forefront and will continue to be so in our Community”especially those companies in the sector that “They are committed to a decontaminated sea and work in line with the fight against climate change”.

The vice-president has highlighted the importance of the nautical sector for the economy of the Islands and above all for the industry, since it is considered strategic within the Industry Plan of the Balearic Islands. Yllanes has recalled that “It is a sector that generates more than 4,500 direct jobs, it is made up of about 650 companies that generate around 840 million euros a year.”

One of the highlights of the new edition is the participation of new companies that had never been part of the PIBS. Specifically, 28% of the exhibitors are coming to Palma for the first time to show their nautical novelties. In terms of supply, the PIBS will be the scene of presentations of new products and boats on a global scale, since it is the first nautical fair of this year’s season and many shipyards have chosen Palma to present the new models. In addition, the increase in the sailing exhibition stands out, one of the most sustainable navigation systems at sea. Apart from this, the segment of hybrid or electric boats is growing again, as well as more sustainable products that are compatible with the protection of the sea.

We must highlight the interest that this next edition has aroused among local (54%), national (18%) and international (28%) companies. In fact, the Palma International Boat Show has become in recent years the event that opens the nautical season and one of the most important gateways for international companies that want to establish themselves on the islands, or to establish relationships with local firms. and thus open new avenues of business.

The Palma International Boat Show includes the Palma Superyacht Village, for the sale and rental of boats over 24 meters in length. This year is characterized by having the largest exhibition of sailboats in Europe, apart from a wide range of motor boats. This area also includes the area dedicated to the repair and maintenance of boats (refit & repair), which this year has the participation of 21 companies dedicated to this activity of the nautical industry, as well as service companies in other areas of the fair. On the other hand, the Palma Superyacht Village will inaugurate a new space dedicated to the crew in which specialized activities and training will be carried out, a commitment to growth for the coming years.
