Wuelfrath. Sophie Püchel fought for third place for TB Wülfrath in a ranking tournament of the German Judo Federation.

The Gymnastics Federation could only compete with one athlete at the ranking list tournament in Lünen, Westphalia. Fabienne Püchel is still in rehab after a cruciate ligament injury, Maurice Püchel was only given the go-ahead from the doctors one day before the tournament after a corona infection in order to start the full scope of training again, and Arthur Distel had to attend the federal screening of the Set U21 in Hanover.

Distel was able to gain experience in the class up to 81 kilograms with a solid performance in his first U21 year. With three fights, the Wülfrather showed that he can also be expected at national level in the future. In the first fight he defeated a Tunisian who was nominated through the Berlin Association. In the other encounters he presented himself combative and athletic. “Unfortunately, there is still a little lack of stability here in order to strategically organize a completely good tournament in the age group over time,” sums up Nicole Püchel from TBW.

Sophie Püchel convinced in the weight class up to 57 kg at the third ranking tournament of the Judo Federation. In the first fight, she was able to assert herself confidently against a participant from Bad Homburg in Hesse. The TBW starter won the second fight after just 19 seconds after a throw followed by a hold. In the semifinals, the Wülfratherin had to compete against a competitor from her own national association. After a very intense game with three minutes of extra time, victory went to Bottrop after seven minutes.

After a short break in competition, Sophie Püchel managed to focus on the small final – she secured the bronze medal after just a few seconds with two impressive techniques.

The TBW athlete was not able to celebrate her placement for a long time because she was nominated by the national trainer to Kienbaum for the European Championship preparation course of the German Judo Federation on the same weekend.

“We wish our fighter a good and successful course in the Olympic
Training center at the Niepenbergersee”, says Nicole Püchel.
