Brandt Snedeker and Beau Hossler each shot rounds of 67 to join JJ Spaun and Dylan Frittelli at the top of the standings after round three of the Valero Texas Open on Saturday.
Spaun (69) and Frittelli (70) both bogeyed their last hole of the day to finish with a minus-10 overall.
Another golfer bogeyed his last hole, Scott Stallings, who was relegated to second place by the mistake. He played 65 and finds himself at 9 under. For his part, Matt Kuchar, who bogeyed in the 18th, posted a cumulative minus-8 after playing par on Saturday.
Spaun had four birdies in five holes before showing up in the 18th with a one-shot lead. On the 17th, he hit the par-4 green at 303 and came close to hitting the cup for an eagle on his 19-foot putt. But in the 18th, his tee shot ended up in the trees before ricocheting near the creek bordering the green.
“If you had told me this Tuesday: ‘Hey, you’re going to be tied for the lead before Sunday’, I would have accepted,” Spaun said. “Yes, a bogey on the last hole, but I think it could have been worse. So, I’m not too depressed about it. »
Leader after two rounds, Ryan Palmer, did not have a bogey on Friday. On Saturday, he had no birdie and dropped to 21st with a round of 77.
Snedeker is looking for his first victory since 2018. It would be his 10th victory on the circuit.
“I worked hard on it, probably as hard as I’ve ever done in my career,” Snedeker said. “I just haven’t had any success. And the only way to fix it is to go out there and do it, go out there and keep training, which I did. And you have to relish the challenges when they come. »
Spaun and Hossler are each looking for their first victory on the circuit and Frittelli won in 2019 at the John Deere Classic.
