Keylor Navas Complains PSG’s Goalkeeper Rotation Strategy

Paris

Paris Saint-Germain played the main goalkeeper, alternating between Keylor Navas and Gianluigi Donnarumma. Navas assesses such a strategy needs to be changed.

Donnarumma’s arrival to PSG last summer created a dilemma for The Parisians. Mauricio Pochettino’s squad now has a reliable goalkeeper other than Navas.

Both Donnarumma and Navas consider themselves PSG’s number one goalkeeper. Pochettino also applied rotation to the two players, both in the French and European leagues.

Gianluigi Donnarumma has so far played 22 times for Paris Saint-Germain in all competitions for 2021/2022. Meanwhile, Keylor Navas appeared more with 23 appearances.

Mauricio Pochettino’s strategy of rotating Donnarumma and Navas seemed a fair solution for both goalkeepers. However, this tactic did not satisfy each goalkeeper.

This was revealed by Navas after appearing as a starter in the Angers vs PSG duel. The Costa Rican footballer hinted at leaving the Parc des Princes if the goalkeeper rotation continued the following season.

“At the end of the season I will have a lot of things to evaluate. I have a good relationship with Gigio, there are no problems between us, but I always want to play,” said Navas, quoted from The Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It’s not an easy situation to handle, so we’ll see what happens. My family and I are fine in Paris, but the situation has to change in one way or another,” the 35-year-old added.

“We have to listen to what the coach has to say. No other club has two goalkeepers of this level. Competition is good, but the future will be different because both players want to play more,” said Navas.

Navas Vs Donnarumma stats so far:

Keylor Navas
23 appearances
21 times conceded
9 clean sheets.

Gianluigi Donnarumma
22 appearances
20 times conceded
8 clean sheets.
