Iga Swiatek beat Emma Raducanu in the quarterfinals in Stuttgart

It doesn’t seem like much, but Iga Swiatek dropped eight games against Emma Raducanu (6-4, 6-4) and it’s rare enough to report it. We have to go back to the Indian Wells semi-finals, against Simona Halep, to see the Polish woman so annoyed in a match (7-6 [6], 6-4). Still too tender on clay where she lacks control in sliding and fails to fully exploit her power, Raducanu however did not make up the numbers in this match. Broken from the start, the Briton couldn’t do much in the first set.

She was also dominated in the second, but was able to strike back at the end of the match where Swiatek was clearly not the most serene. But she was able to find the resources to avoid a third set and pocket a 21st victory in a row (including two in the Billie Jean King Cup). She will face Liudmila Samsonova in the semi-finals.
