FC Bayern: Julian Nagelsmann reveals – I’m a vegetarian now – Bundesliga

Julian Nagelsmann (34) is rid of his nickname!

Reason: The Bayern coach has been a vegetarian for about a month. One of Nagelsmann’s favorite foods at the moment is spinach dumplings. Before he changed his diet, he loved meatloaf with cranberries and pomegranate seeds. He occasionally cooked the dish for his coaching team. That’s why Nagelsmann was also called “Hacki”.

Now the nickname doesn’t really fit anymore…

Nagelsmann to BILD: “I’m also a bit nostalgic that I’ve lost the nickname ‘Hacki’. Of course I would be so selfless and still cook the meatloaf. But then it also kinda misses the point of my transition to vegetarianism because I buy meat.”

The coach explains his change in diet as follows: “Animal welfare is definitely the most important catchphrase for me, that you refrain from eating creatures that have eyes. The second major issue is environmental protection. This is a point that is important to me and should be important to everyone. That, too, persuaded me to give up meat and fish.”

Incidentally, Nagelsmann owed his nickname to his buddy and Bayern video analyst Benjamin Glück (35). Nagelsmann already has ideas for new names: “Maybe he’ll call me Erbsi or Vegan-Hacki now. There’s a lot out there that’s made from pea protein, which is really, really good.”

And how difficult is it for Nagelsmann to give up meat and fish?

Nagelsmann: “I have no problem at all when meat is in front of me. I don’t eat it and I don’t start drooling either. I have no feeling of sacrifice at all.”
