Ecuador will take 149 athletes to the South American Youth Games

The Ecuadorian delegation registered 69 women and 80 men for the event to be held in Rosario, Argentina, from April 28 to May 8, 2022.

149 Ecuadorian athletes between 14 and 18 years old will compete in 21 disciplines at the 2022 South American Youth Games, as announced by the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee (COE).

Among the main candidates to win a medal is Jessica Palacios, younger sister of Olympic champion Neisi Dajomes. At 16 years old, the weightlifter is the Pan American champion in the Sub 15 and silver and bronze medalist in the Sub 17.

The micro tennis players will also go Diego Piguave and Jeremy Cedeno, who train in European teams. Piguave was a bronze medalist at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games and Cedeño was the 2020 South American junior runner-up.

Other outstanding Ecuadorians are: the climber Paolo Rivadeneira, the walker Karen Litardo, the swimmer Danna Martínez, the fighter Vicky León, and the gymnast Daniel Chica.

Athletics It will carry the largest delegation in the country with 25 athletes. Weightlifting and wrestling follow with 11; swimming with 10; and judo, handball and basketball 3×3 with eight each.

This will be the third edition of the South American Youth Games. The events will take place in a single setting: the Parque Único Suramericano de Rosario. 2,500 athletes from 15 countries will participate in the competition.
