Badminton. Amaury Lièvre: “Paris 2024? One day, I will be in these tournaments » – Badminton

Brittany Championships at La Châtaigneraie hall in Ploemeur, Saturday and Sunday

What does this Brittany championship represent for you?

Due to other deadlines, I haven’t taken part since 2019 and my success is a bit of a surprise in Kervignac. It’s probably time to win back this important title – it’s my region and it’s been a long time since I played there – that I managed to win at 16 years old. This year, I will have the sign on my back but I will have to count with Tino Daoudal, Mattéo Justel (Guichen – Bourg-des-Comptes), Martin Boiveau (Rostrenen), for example.

Did the bronze medal won in France elite (2020 but contested in 2021) change anything for you?

Yes and no. Yes, because it was a medal at a French senior championship and I wasn’t expecting it, even if several top seeds hadn’t come. But not also, because I would have especially wished for this medal at the next French championship, which was going to be much tougher. I stopped in the round of 16, beaten by Brice Leverdez (15-21, 21-13, 21-9), but I learned a lot more there.

What are your goals now?

Do more and more international tournaments to climb as quickly as possible into the top 250, or even the top 200 in the world. I should do a number of them by the end of the year. But suddenly, I participate in a lot fewer tournaments in France or Brittany. In September, during my only international junior outing for the selections, I had beaten members of the top 10 world juniors. However, the European championships, like the Worlds, were then canceled…

Paris 2024, is it still playable for you?

I simply prefer to say that one day I will be in these tournaments. And it will take as long as it takes! We will say that I will do everything to climb as quickly as possible among the 50 best in the world. But, for now, there may be only one quota. Currently, the French number one is 35th in the world (Leverdez). For France to win a second quota, it would take two Tricolores in the world top 10… But the French level is rising. They are now numerous in the top 100 (6) and it is not, in my opinion, about to stop! There are a lot of good young people and a great dynamic…
