“As long as I play, I will think of the France team”, assures Thauvin, happy in Mexico

The French world champion returned to his new life in Mexico but also to what he left behind: Marseille and the Blues.

Florian Thauvin, in a long interview with L’Équipe, returned to his new life in Mexico with the Tigres de Monterrey, alongside Andre-Pierre Gignac. The Frenchman notably returned to his departure from Marseille in 2021.

“I was on the verge of extending. Pablo Longoria did everything and I thank him again. He would have deserved that I extend given his investment. But I had toured Marseilles. I would have had to be 100% in my head to stay at OM. This was no longer the case. My motivation was no longer total. I felt it inside. I was called elsewhere. I needed a change at 28. I had already fulfilled my dream of playing for OM. It was also good for the club to turn the page. he explains.

The former OM player also mentioned the France team and does not close the door to a possible summons although it remains unlikely. “As long as I play, I will think of the France team. I will never draw a line under the Blues! I still receive all the preconvocations. I had the chance to be twice world champion (with the under 20s in 2013 and the A’s in 2018). My attachment to this jersey is terrible. It will always be a dream to return to the France team and to wear my country’s jersey proudly.confided Thauvin who dreams of organizing a match between Olympique de Marseille and the Tigers.
