It was supposed to be a normal test day. But the Czech rider suddenly turned into an unexpected drama on the Italian circuit.
Formánek crashed into barriers at a speed of about 240 km / h on Tuesday. He did a lot of damage to the car, which according to the daily Aktuálně.cz costs seven million crowns.
“It was my riding error, I pushed hard on the saw,” the pilot admits, saying he hadn’t had a major accident in six years. And never so hard.
In addition, Formánek could not get out of the damaged car. The tires were specially covered in safety barriers and he had to scramble over the passenger’s side. Fortunately, he left the crash site on his own. After the necessary examination, he returned behind the wheel the same day. He sat in the second team Lamborghini and set off on the track.
“Before I returned from the examination, the boys tossed me a seat, a steering wheel, adjusted my belts and I went around for another six laps to return immediately and not have a block from the accident,” explained the pilot of the Mičánek Motorsport team powered by Buggyra.
Formánka awaits the first event of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe series in Imola together with compatriot Josef Záruba. The crew in it defends last year’s overall third place in the Pro-Am class. If he will start the race weekend, he will probably decide on Friday.
“I expect to start training and then we’ll see,” says Formánek, adding that he is most limited by an injured knee and a swollen instep, due to which he can’t brake his left foot well.
