Basketball Bundesliga: In March it counts for the Skyliners Frankfurt | hessenschau.de

The Skyliners Frankfurt shake the hefty bankruptcies against Berlin and Munich out of their clothes in the training camp on Mallorca. That’s better. Because in March the crunch time in the relegation battle begins for the Hessians.

Crunch time for the Skyliners

End of the audio contribution

The past month was one to forget at the Skyliners Frankfurt. The Hessians played four games in February in the basketball Bundesliga, all four of which were lost. For classification, however, it must be said that the defeats against the top teams from Munich, Berlin and Ludwigsburg were probably more likely to be included. The 103:110 against Oldenburg, who was bottom of the table at the time, hurt coach Diego Ocampo’s team all the more.

In March, the program looks a bit more feasible. Then the Skyliners can’t afford too many missteps. “March will of course be very important because we are approaching the finale of the season,” said coach Ocampo to hr-sport. And there it is in rows against direct competitors in the relegation battle.

Finally get into the rhythm

The Skyliners shouldn’t lose against the Central Germans BC (March 13) and Würzburg (March 16), a win against Braunschweig (March 28) seems at least feasible. There may also be a meeting with Heidelberg, which had to be relocated from the student city due to a corona outbreak among academics.

For the Skyliners, March is also about finally getting into the rhythm. The Hessians’ season is characterized by injuries, corona diseases, game breaks and transfers. That’s another reason why the club used the cup and international break and traveled to Mallorca for a short training camp. There Ocampo not only wants to finally train in peace with the almost complete squad, but also swear his team once again to the upcoming tasks.

Not much works without Cherry

“We have to do three things better in the next few games: defense, rebound and offense,” said Ocampo. That sounds comprehensive. However, anyone who has seen Frankfurt’s most recent games knows that things are not looking so bad for them. However, it is also true that no other team scores fewer points per game than the Hessians.

The attacking game builds heavily on point guard Will Cherry. However, the clock was missing recently with back problems. “Will is now healthy again and is training fully,” Ocampo was able to convey good news from the training camp. The Skyliners would certainly not object to more good news in March.
