Guillaume François: “Returning to this level in D1 with the Union is a personal victory”

Among the beautiful unionist surprises of the season, there is Guillaume François. The 31-year-old right-back, who we knew in Charleroi, Mouscron or even Beerschot, is not always a starter in the Mazzù team but often responds when his T1 calls on him, as there are three weeks, on the ground of an Antwerp which emerges from the best teams of our D1.

And the Luxembourger savors this gift that he may not have seen happen himself, in the summer of 2020, when he left Virton for the Brussels club, still in D1B. “For me, it’s already a small victory to have returned to D1A after several years spent in the lower echelons. I wanted to prove that I still had the level of D1. Beyond that, it’s a pleasure to participate in a season which marks the return of the Union in this way and could be historic. I am clearly living one of the best seasons of my career, even if I am not throwing in the trash what I have experienced elsewhere .”

It remains to be seen what Guillaume François will do in a few months, when his contract ends in June 2022: “Discussing my future is not on the agenda at the moment, but I like it here. The Union is a club that suits me and I like the place I occupy.”
