RWE: Return to team training is imminent – we wanted a test match

After the cancellation of the Turkey training camp, RWE started a new week on the local Hafenstrasse. The team is about to return to training. A test opponent is sought.

On Sunday had those responsible for the Regionalliga West league leaders Rot-Weiss Essen our hands full. After the results of the PCR tests and several corona cases in the team and in the staff, the phones were with the CEO Marcus Uhlig and sports director Jörn Nowak no longer silent.

Above all, those responsible had to speak to the Essen health department. The question, of course, is: what’s next?

For the time being, the players will no longer enter the catacombs or the stadium cabins and will appear already changed for training and then go home again. The boys will then only see each other on the pitch.

The Red-Whites have already received an answer to this. While there will be no team training on Monday and Tuesday, the team will meet again on Wednesday – probably at 11 a.m. – for a joint session on the training ground on Hafenstrasse. Who will be missing? “We’ll see. We’ll also do quick tests before training,” Nowak replied RevierSport and also reveals that the security precautions at RWE will be increased again with immediate effect. “For the time being, the players will no longer enter the stadium’s catacombs and cabins, they will appear already changed for training and then go home again. The boys will then only see each other on the pitch.” It is uncertain for how long these measures should apply.

Good test match opponent wanted

It is also still open who Rot-Weiss Essen will meet in a test match next weekend or even at the end of the week. Actually, two to three test matches in Turkey were planned for this week. “Now we just have to reschedule. We are looking for one or two opponents from Thursday. In the best case scenario, there should be a strong opponent,” emphasizes Nowak.
