Playmaker Brown tested positive: The game of the BG Göttingen in Bayreuth took place

Good and bad news for the BG Göttingen: The Bundesliga basketball team’s game at Medi Bayreuth on Wednesday at 7 p.m. can take place as planned. This was confirmed by BG press spokeswoman Birte Meyenberg two hours before the start of the game on request. However, BG playmaker Stephen Brown tested positive for the corona virus on Tuesday and is in quarantine.

The fact that Brown was absent was of course a “catastrophe” for the BG Göttingen, as they were now without a real playmaker, said Meyenberg. That of course makes the job at Medi Bayreuth all the more difficult. But you have to accept that: “Safety first.”

On Wednesday morning, the actors from both teams had to undergo PCR tests again. You had to wait for these results because it would have been quite possible that other players were infected, said Meyenberg. But that is not the case. All PCR tests were without exception negative – this applies to both Bayreuth and the violets. Therefore, after consultation with the BBL, the game will kick off at 7 p.m. as planned.

According to Meyenberg, Brown received his positive PCR test result on Tuesday in the team bus while traveling to Bayreuth. All the other players would have been on the bus – in compliance with the required distances and with masks. Brown was then isolated immediately after arriving in Bayreuth.

Since there was no rental car on Tuesday and Wednesday, an employee of the BG went to Bayreuth in Brown’s car. With this, the US-American then drove back to Göttingen alone, said Meyenberg. The employee then returns to Göttingen with the team.

Brown had no symptoms, he was fine, said Meyenberg. “I want to play,” he said. But of course that is not possible. He is now in quarantine. Which variant of the virus he was infected with is still unclear.

The Göttingen health department has not imposed a quarantine for the entire team because all players have been vaccinated and boosted. Without having to play the regular playmaker in Bayreuth, it is still “super difficult” of course.
