Novak Djokovic sets one more record

Novak Djokovic’s dominance in tennis is undeniable and his multiple records back him up. As soon as 2022 begins and without activity, the server already has one more record in its history.

It might sound strange, but it’s true. It was only a matter of starting the year for the world’s number one to achieve this achievement. And it is that, with the change of season, Novak Djokovic becomes the first player in tennis history to be world number one at least one day during 11 different years. With he surpassed his companions of always in the records, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

2022 has just started and Nole already has one more motivation to face a season in which he will seek to continue making history and achieve what he was denied in 2021: the Grand Slam number 21. In addition, the Serbian stayed close to completing the Grand Slam of the calendar, since he only needed to win the US Open to take the big four in 2021.

Djokovic has been number one for some time in the years of 2011 to 2016 and from 2018 to 2022. With this, he accumulates the 11 years in which at some point he has been in the top of the ATP.

With this, Djokovic surpassed Rafael Nadal, with whom he was tied in this record with 10 years touching the top of the ATP. The Spanish achieved it in the years of 2008 to 2011, in 2013, 2014 and from 2017 to 2020.

Meanwhile, Roger Federer remains behind them with 9 years in which he became number one in the world. The Swiss achieved it in three stages: from 2004 to 2010, in 2012 and in 2018.

The Serbian did it in 2015 and 2021, while Pete Sampras did it in 1994 and 1997, and Ivan Lendl did it in 1986 and 1987. On the other hand, Jimmy Connors y Roger Federer they did it in three seasons, Connors in 1975, 1976 and 1978, and Federer in 2005, 2006 and 2007, being the only tennis player to have 3 consecutive seasons as world number 1 in 100 percent of the weeks.
