NFL: Baker Mayfield will need surgery on his left shoulder

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield confirmed Monday that he will undergo left shoulder surgery this offseason to treat an injury that has bothered him since week two of operation.

With the Browns out of the race for a playoff appearance, head coach Kevin Stefanski has confirmed Mayfield will not face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. The quarterback had previously said he would discuss it with his agent and family members.

“I’m an extremely competitive guy,” Mayfield said following the 26-14 loss to the Steelers in Pittsburgh on Monday night. Now is the time to take a look at what’s best for me and my health.

Mayfield had another tough game against the Steelers with nine sacks. At some point in the first half, he failed to complete a pass in ten consecutive attempts, the longest such streak in the National Football League since 2019.

In addition to his left shoulder, Mayfield has also been hampered by pain in his left foot and right knee during the season. He is under contract until 2022, after the Browns exercise the fifth option year worth US $ 18.86 million in his first deal.
