Worry about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (32)! The Gabon captain was diagnosed with a heart ‘lesion’ following his corona infection before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations. A more precise diagnosis was not initially available.
According to the Gabonese Football Association, they didn’t want to take any risks given their heart problems, which is why the Arsenal striker missed that evening’s 1-1 draw with Ghana.
Aubameyang’s teammates Axel Meyé and Mario Lemina had to pass for the same reason. Before his positive corona test, the striker is said to have spent a night partying in Dubai with his two teammates. According to a video on Twitter, all guests were apparently not wearing mouth and nose protection.
The Africa Cup of Nations takes place in Cameroon until February 6th. Gabon had won 1-0 against the Comoros at the start.
Any player who was infected with Corona at the tournament must complete a medical examination before returning.
