Gernika expels one of their players after being denounced for sexist violence

Gernika Rugby Taldea has decided to expel one of its players after being denounced for an alleged case of sexist violence. The Biscayan club has issued an official statement in which they affirm that “in coherence with the values ​​of rectitude, honesty and integrity” that characterize this sport and the entity, they make the decision to dispense with the player’s services.

Gernika claims to be “committed against sexist violence” and after having learned of the events that occurred on the night of December 31, the club “immediately decided to permanently expel the player involved from its discipline.”

The player, of New Zealand origin, was arrested hours after assaulting his partner. It was the Ertzaintza who contacted the club after being aware of the facts. The player is not detained, according to what the president of the club Iñaki Uribe has revealed on Radio Euskadi. This afternoon a rally against this aggression and sexist violence will be held in Gernika.

According to the latest data provided by the Ministry of Equality, from January to November 25, the murders of 37 women in Spain were counted. 29 of them had never reported their attacker.
