Agnel has been charged with “rape and sexual assault” and is under judicial supervision. According to the French sports newspaper L’Equipe, he is forbidden to leave the little Paris Ring, to contact Sophie Kamoun, his agent, the Horter family and his alleged victim. Agnel also had to hand in his passport. The double Olympic champion in London in 2012 was arrested on Thursday morning as part of an investigation in his apartment in Paris.

The alleged victim is Naome Horter, daughter of Agnel’s former trainer Lionel Horter. At the time of the incident (2016), the girl was 13 years old and Agnel was 24.

According to further information from the public prosecutor, the offense was “rape or sexual assault”. This is the case in France when the age difference is at least five years. Roux-Morizot said she believed Agnel regretted the actions. “He has expressed himself accordingly.” At the same time, however, he showed gaps in his memory in some places regarding alleged intimate relationships with the minor. According to Roux-Morizot, these took place in different places: in Mulhouse, but also in Thailand during a training camp, in Rio de Janeiro, where the 2016 Olympic Games took place, and in Tenerife.

A complaint was received last summer. Agnel was swimming for the Mulhouse Olympic Natation club at the time of the alleged crime.

Agnel had won gold over the 200 meter freestyle and the 4×100 meter relay at the 2012 Summer Games in London. In 2013 in Barcelona he also won the world championship over the same distances. At the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, he was unsuccessful and then ended his active career.
