The Mossos have already received a minimum of six complaints against Benaiges

BarcelonaThe Mossos d’Esquadra’s Central Aggression Unit (UCAS) will centralize the complaints that different alumni of the Escola Barcelona de les Corts and the Unió Esportiva Sants are filing against Barça football teacher and ex-coordinator Albert Benaiges, as a result of the ARA investigation that uncovered the case. For now, although the Catalan police have not wanted to detail the exact figure, the ARA has been aware of a minimum of six complaints, and it is expected that during this week a minimum of six more people will do so.

This Monday the ARA has continued to collect testimonies from people who suffered Benaiges both in the school and in Sants. A student in the 1983 class has admitted to being sexually abused several times. He had been considering contacting ARA for a long time and has finally done so today. When he was 10 or 11, Benaiges masturbated him. He locked him in the little locker room that the teacher had in the gym and abused it. According to this testimony, he went through “four or five times” and, although he did not mark it as an adult, he did condition his adolescence, because he normalized sexualized situations that he lived with Benaiges and repeated them with a companion of his age. In addition, this former student of the Barcelona School remembers how on one occasion the teacher masturbated him together with another classmate. Precisely this second student – ARA has contacted his family – was the one who reported Benaiges in 1997, a case that was filed. The then minor reported sexual abuse to the Mossos d’Esquadra by Benaiges, but in the indictment the teacher’s name did not appear and the case focused on a relative of the minor. This led to the judge declaring his dismissal.

The Trustees are investigating what the School did

For his part, the Catalan Ombudsman has initiated an ex officio action on this case and has addressed the Barcelona Education Consortium to gather all possible information about Albert Benaiges and his 38 years as a teacher of the center, but at the same time to know if “the management or other professionals of the center” had been aware of what was happening. The Catalan Ombudsman has also urged the Department of Social Rights to have information on the reception of children by Benaiges and the adoption process that it processed and was authorized in 1996 as a single-parent family. “The Catalan Ombudsman has also contacted the Department of Social Rights to find out whether the person reported has actually taken in or adopted children or has been a collaborating family, the number of children and the time period for each child.” adds the statement issued this Monday afternoon.

The Barcelona Ombudsman’s Office has also announced that it will require information on the case. Thus, in the face of the many cases reported, which affect a municipal public school, the Sindicatura remarks that it has powers to receive complaints and testimonies that consider that “the complicity of municipal public bodies in Barcelona have historically encouraged or silenced these criminal practices. whether they prescribed it or not “.

Who also spoke was the Barcelona School itself, which has expressed a “firm condemnation” of the facts reported in the pages of the newspaper ARA. The center has sought to support people who have been abused and harassed by Benaiges, who left the center in 2010 and has had no further ties to the school since.
