Sports: Are the stadiums packed outdoors? It’s always possible

In its last report, GEMS raised the issue of indoor and outdoor sporting events. The good news is that Codeco has chosen to let sports activities take place indoors. On the other hand, the presence of the public is prohibited for sports competitions organized inside. Alexander De Croo justified this decision by the importance that sport has on the mental health of the population.

When it comes to outdoor sports, the rules are not yet perfectly clear. The Consultative Committee actually passes the hot potato to the mayors, who can decide whether there are too many people at certain gatherings. An identical measure to that which prevails for Christmas markets for example. Until proven otherwise, the stadiums will therefore be able to fill up with supporters outside. Professional football clubs will therefore be able to breathe … for the moment.

According to HLN, the government should still consult with the Pro League to make an official decision. Until then, supporters will be able to go to the stadiums with the Covid Safe Ticket and equipped with their mask.

These measures come into force on Saturday December 4, 2021. The Consultation Committee will reassess the epidemiological situation during the week of December 20.
