Puerto Varas Women’s Basketball Branch will play the Magellan Cup in Punta Arenas

The U15 and U13 series of the Women’s Branch were invited to participate in the traditional Magallanes Cup women’s basketball tournament, organized by the Spanish Club of Punta Arenas. The representatives of the city of roses will travel 2 weekends in December to face tough commitments in the southern city. The first turn will be in the U15 series, which between December 3 and 5 will face Español from Punta Arenas, Sokol, Rencort, Inacap and Madre Paulina from Puerto Montt. Subsequently, the U13 series of the Female Branch will be present on the parquet of the Spanish Gymnasium of Punta Arenas, which on December 10, 11 and 12 will see action to try to win the title.

The Puerto Rico club held “this invitation to participate in a tournament such as the Magallanes Cup, which at the female level is one of the most important in southern Chile, fills us with pride, it is the result of the hard work that we have sustained and that has meaning the consolidation of the Women’s Branch as a benchmark for basketball in the south of the country. The leadership, the parents, our players and the coaching staff have been present in this effort ”.

Community Recognition

Before the departure of the first group, the Mayor of Puerto Varas Tomás Gárate, visited the players and in recognition of the communal representation gave them the flag of the city. On the occasion, the authority pointed out: “I want first of all to congratulate all that this club has achieved, it is really exciting to see how the Puerto Varas Women’s Basketball Branch has grown steadily, in a project in which the board and the the parents have been there supporting and now they have more than 80 girls of different ages, different categories participating in championships in training instances throughout the country. Therefore I congratulate this club for all the effort that has been made from behind and especially our girls who are going to represent our community to the championship in Punta Arenas, a big hug to all and to continue working for women’s sports in Puerto Varas ”.

Roberto Sánchez, President of the Women’s Branch, thanked the Mayor for the gesture and expressed. “It is an honor for our club to be bearers of this flag that represents our identity, I am sure that our players and coaching staff will leave it as high as possible, giving their best in each match. I also take the opportunity to thank the Mayor for this visit and also the Councilors who accompanied us, Rocío Alvarado, Rodrigo Schnettler, Marcelo Salazar, Juan Godoy and also Nataly Muñoz who excused himself and Antonio Horn who left us a present. “

The players of the Women’s Branch are already psyched, they have prepared for this challenge and without a doubt the support given and the feeling of being the representatives of the commune, is an important support that they will know how to transform into motivation when entering the field.
