Novak Djokovic forcefully referred to the Peng Shuai case

You can change venues, formats and the week in which it is disputed. It could be in Madrid, Abu Dhabi or at various locations. However, there is something that will never change: the love that tennis players feel for representing their country in a tournament of such caliber and with so much history. In that sense, one of those who loves to wear the colors of their flag is Novak Djokovic and that’s why he put the holidays aside to play the Davis Cup and try to close the season with a new title. Indeed, Serbia edged Kazakhstan 2-1 and almost with the sound of the buzzer (it was 6-3 in the third of the doubles) and, in this way, they qualified for the semifinals, where they will be measured against Croatia.

– The goal of Davis

I have always spoken that my priorities at this stage of my career are the Grand Slams and playing for the national team. I feel very motivated and it inspires me to be part of the group. As long as I am healthy, I will be available for the captain and particularly for Davis, which is the most historic team competition. We are trying to find the right team to represent Serbia in the years to come and I look forward to contributing in a positive way.

– Analysis on Kazakhstan

Kecmanovic came very close to winning, with match points, but the credit went to Kukushkin for showing that he is an experienced player and that he loves this tournament. It wasn’t easy going out on the track in the singles because he was going through an emotional moment where he needed victory and had never faced Bublik. The doubles, in this format, is super important and they have played more time together than we have with Nikola Cacic. It was such a relief [haber ganado] and I’m excited for what’s to come.

– The tie against the Croats (another Balkan country)

It is true that there is a great rivalry with Croatia and that this match has an extra meaning for us. There is always additional pressure and motivation to win. Anyway, friendship and respect with these guys is a positive message. I know Cilic very well, Gojo is one of the biggest surprises of the tournament and they have the best doubles pair in the world. It’s great to have a rest day to recover and give support to the rest of the teammates. We want to win every game.

– His look on the WTA’s decision to cancel tournaments in China over the Peng Shuai case

The PTPA is always on the side of the players and fully supports the WTA because we don’t have enough information about Peng Shuai and her well-being. I do not see anything wrong with the request of the WTA and everyone to ask for more clarity on what is happening. I think it is important that we support everyone, be it female or male players and regardless of the organization to which they belong. It is really sad that we do not have enough information on the subject. As a tennis community we must all be together.
