Pavard changes himself: Bayern coach Nagelsmann gives a striking statement

A sensational moment during Bayern Munich-VfL Wolfsburg (4-0) Friday evening: Julian Nagelsmann prepared a substitution and just then Benjamin Pavard sprints into the catacombs. The Bayern coach gives an explanation with a smile.

There was before The record champion not a speck in the air against Wout Weghorst’s Wolfsburg. After more than eighty minutes it was 3-0, so Nagelsmann saw room to give nineteen-year-old Malik Tillman from the U23 team playing time. He was initially supposed to come for Jamal Musiala, but at the moment of the substitution Pavard sprinted off the field. “In my best French I understood that he really needed to go to the toilet”, Nagelsmann laughs at the press moment after the game.

The German trainer didn’t know what to do and decided to leave Musiala and bring Tillman for Pavard. “I looked to see if Benjamin came back quickly, but that wasn’t the case. That’s why we adjusted the substitution. It didn’t turn out wrong,” winks Nagelsmann, who saw Musiala prepare Robert Lewandowski’s 4-0.

Lewandowski scored his 43rd goal this calendar year with his goal. The Pole thus passes record holder Gerd Müller, who scored 42 goals in 1972.
