Bashir Abdi and Abdi Nageeye both have Somali roots and are good friends. Nageeye has walked in Rotterdam before, in 2019 he set the Dutch record at 2u06’17”.
Bashi Abdi sharpened the European record in the last edition this autumn with a time of 2:03:36″, a chrono with which he also won the race.
“If we can run together on this fast course, it can go even faster”, Abdi then expressed the wish after his victory to be able to run alongside Nageeye in the Dutch port city. “This is the marathon for me and so is my friend Nageeye.”
On April 10, that wish will come true. “We are happy and proud that these two toppers and trendsetters will be at the start in Rotterdam. The marathon is only 4 months away, but it is certainly something to look forward to now”, says Remco Barbier, the new director of the Rotterdam marathon.
