Vincent Kompany after racism incident: “I reacted as a person, not as a trainer” | Belgian Cup

Tomorrow evening Anderlecht will play football in the cup against KV Kortrijk, but at the press conference reporters first asked him to look back at his statement from Sunday.

“I’m disgusted. We were called brown monkeys for an entire match,” said Kompany after the top match Club Brugge – Anderlecht (2-2).

“That was a reaction as a person, not as a trainer,” explains Kompany three days later. “I have not thought about it either. It was not an action plan against racism, but it is good that the subject is now on the table.”

“Such statements come from individuals, which is why we cannot minimize them. You do not only hear them in professional football.”

A day after the fact, Kompany had his head back on football. The former international hopes that racism will be tackled.

“We can’t sweep it under the rug. It’s up to the executives to take action so it doesn’t happen again,” says Kompany.

“It will not be arranged on 1, 2, 3, but it has to happen. Because there are people on the football field, no skin colors.”
