Nations League becomes a World Cup indicator for the DFB team

The Nations League will take place for the third time next year. The German national soccer team is back in League A of the best teams. At the draw at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, the team of national coach Hansi Flick could face tough opponents.

How to draw: A breakdown like the one in the Champions League draw cannot actually happen today. The 16 teams from League A are divided into four pots of four teams. The teams from each pot are allocated to groups 1 to 4. There are no restrictions for certain lot constellations.

These opponents are possible for Germany: Germany is in the pot two of the four teams that took second place in their groups in the last edition. In addition to the DFB-Elf, these are the Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark. Germany cannot meet these teams. France, Italy, Spain and Belgium are in pot one. One of these top nations becomes a Flick opponent. The two other opponents come from pot three with England, Croatia, Poland and Switzerland and from the promoted pot four with Wales, Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

This is the mode: Each team plays in home and away games against the other three teams in their group. The four group winners are qualified for the final tournament in June 2023. The four bottom of the group are relegated to the B-League for the following edition.

These are the game dates: four games from June 2nd to 14th, two games from September 22nd to 27th. The Nations League will be a test run for the World Cup in Qatar with six games. “Of course we also use these games to get used to it,” said Flick.
