MLB: Yankees hire Mexican American Eric Chávez as new coach

With the work stoppage still under way, the New York Yankees They are still working on what they can to prepare for their 2022 season in Major League Baseball. They recently finished defining the coaching staff headed by manager Aaron Boone, same as the newly hired mexicoamericano Eric Chávez.

Chávez, known as a great defender after winning six times the Golden Glove, as well as a hitter in the important moments with a Beat the Pay along the 17 seasons in the Major Leagues, will return to the Yankees after a brief stint as new assistant to the coach batting.

“He’s someone I’ve had an interest in for a while,” Boone said during the presentation. “I imagined this role of having a person who can grow in the position, bring presence to the coaching staff and bring presence to the room. I feel like it has a lot to offer. While I was in the interview process, of many ways, it blew me away”.

After his last at-bat in 2014, Chávez served as special assistant to the general manager of the Yankees, Brian Cashman, before working with the Angels in a similar role between 2016 and 2020.

Chávez played 171 games for the Yankees in 2011-12 after one career stellar in the hot corner with the Athletics (1998-2010). He finished his career with the D-backs (2013-14), retiring with a .268 average, 260 home runs and an .818 OPS.
