Jaguars request interviews with Byron Leftwich and Todd Bowles for head coach position

With the abrupt end that the management of Urban Meyer (fired after being accused of beating Josh Lambo), the Jaguars they were headless. To occupy that space, Jacksonville has already started the hiring process and is staring at Raymond James Stadium.

According to information from Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jags have requested interviews with Byron Leftwich yTodd Bowles, who serve as coordinators of the reigning champions of the league.

Leftwich, 41, has served as the Buccaneers offensive coordinator since 2019, year of the arrival of Bruce Arians to Tampa Bay, and for three consecutive seasons the unit he leads has finished in the top 10 in the league. Another factor that works in his favor is that between 2003 and 2006 he was QB for Jacksonville.

Like Leftwich, Bowles arrived in Tampa as part of the Arians coaching staff. The element that plays in favor of the ex-safety is that he already has experience as the head coach of the NFL – interim head coach of the Dolphins in 2011 and HC of the Jets between 2015 and 2018.

Other candidates

Although Leftwich and Bowles look like the main candidates to take over the reins of the Jaguars, Shad Khan also weighs other options. According to Schefter, Cowboys offensive and defensive coordinators Kellen Moore and Dan Quinn, are also considered.

Additionally, the Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, the Packers OC Nathaniel Hackett y Doug Pederson, former head coach of the Eagles, are in the crosshairs of Jacksonville according to reports Tom Pelissero, of NFL Network.
