“You always want to go back to where you were happy”

Víctor Cantillo closes 2021 with one of his great objectives accomplished: to return to the Colombian National Team. The Magdalene midfielder at the service of Corinthians of Brazil entered – finally! – on the radar of coach Reinaldo Rueda for the last two matches of the Qualifying Round this year, adding minutes in the 0-0 draw against Paraguay, where he left very good feelings .

The former Junior player is satisfied with what was done in 2021, hoping that 2022 will come loaded with “many more blessings.”

“I think it was a great year for me. I fulfilled a dream that I had for a long time, which was to return to the National Team, and I had minutes at my club, Corinthians, where things were done well the time I was on the pitch. This year has been a wonderful experience and I have enjoyed it to the fullest. Let’s hope that 2022 comes with many more blessings, ”said the 28-year-old from Magdalene, who added 2,126 minutes in 31 games for Corinthians this year, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

Cantillo not only hopes to continue in the ‘Timao’, but to earn a place in the starting team, thus the competition for this coming year increases with the arrival of the experienced Paulinho, former player of Barcelona and the Brazilian team.

“Corinthians is a very strong team, which is building up in a great way, and signings like Paulinho’s strengthen the club’s project for 2022. We hope to be able to fight for important things and personally be a protagonist in achieving those goals “, He said.

“So far no one has told me anything about my departure from Corinthians, or about the possibility of going to another club in Brazil (there was talk of Fluminense),” he added.

His love for Junior remains intact, so every time he speaks he does not hide that desire to one day return. Perhaps today the option is distant, but the Magdalene hope that life will bring him back to the rojiblanco team, where he left an immense mark.

“Of course I miss Junior. You always want to go back to where you were happy. I have fond memories of my time at this great institution, and I repeat, I hope to return at some point, “he said.

Cantillo highlighted the end of the year for the rojiblanco team in League II-2021, where they fought to reach the grand final until the last moment and I predict a very good 2022.

“I always see myself in all Junior games, supporting, as a good fan. They had good and bad moments, like everyone else, and in the end they lacked little to achieve the main objective, which was the League. I think the end of the year was very good. I am sure that 2022 will be a great year for Junior ”, he expressed.

Finally, he spoke of the Selection. He is confident that La Amarilla will qualify for the World Cup and he hopes to be part of the achievement of that great goal.

“There are important games ahead —the last four of the qualifying round—, let’s hope that the National Team is up to the task and can do things well to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar, which is the great goal. We dream of being able to achieve it and hopefully I can contribute my bit to achieve what we all yearn for ”, he concluded.
