Ex-boss warns Joan Laporta about Perez and Javier Tebas

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus Turin do not move away from their plans to establish a Super League. Ex-Barça boss Joan Gaspart advises current President Joan Laporta to be careful.

The younger generation is turning away from football. With the introduction of a Super League, this development could be counteracted, as more interesting games would be pending in the new format. This is one of the reasons why Real President Florentino Perez is promoting the new elite league.

Originally, twelve clubs wanted to found the new league. After numerous protests, however, Inter Milan, Milan, Atletico Madrid, Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and the said goodbye FC Liverpool of the plans. Only Juventus, Real and Barcelona are still on board.

Ex-Barça president Joan Gaspart advises the current boss to be careful. Joan Laporta should keep his distance from Florentino Perez, the ex-official told El 10 del Barça: “You have to keep a close eye on this agreement between three clubs.”

Perez, an advocate of the Super League, has been waging a guerrilla war with Spain’s league boss Javier Tebas for months, who wants to sell shares in the Primera Division to an investor from Luxembourg. Barça and Real Madrid are against the deal.

According to Gaspart, Laporta needs to be careful. “Don’t ask me who I trust more because I don’t trust either of them,” said the 77-year-old. Both Tebas and Perez would “hate Barça”. The Real president especially because Barça is the royal’s biggest competitor, and Tebas has a personal dislike for Blaugrana.

Joan Gaspart was Barça President between July 2000 and February 2003. Laporta inherited the Catalan entrepreneur and ran the association for seven years. Laporta has been back at the helm since March 2020.
