Wilfried Zaha, Palace Striker Reveals Racial Harassment from Indonesia

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Striker Crystal Palace Wilfried Zaha expose perpetrators of racial harassment on social media, including from Indonesian netizens.

Zaha performed brilliantly when Palace beat Premier League giants Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last weekend. Zaha contributed one goal in the match which Palace won 2-0.

Zaha actually had the opportunity to score two goals in that match, but the opportunity was stopped by Aymeric Laporte’s foul which led to a red card.

After the match, Zaha got terror via direct message on Instagram. The Ivory Coast striker also intentionally uploaded five racist messages and harsh words.

One of the five senders of the message is known to be from Indonesia. Because, the perpetrator was caught using the Indonesian language to attack Zaha.

Zaha intentionally uploaded the five irresponsible accounts on Instastory as a form of resistance against racial actors.

“I’m here for all the bullshit instead of fixing the real problem!”

“I don’t mind being harassed because now it’s part of my job even though it’s not an excuse but the color of my skin will always be the real problem. But that’s okay because I will always be black and proud,” wrote Zaha.

To CNN, Zaha once admitted that he was afraid to open Instagram social media because of the many racial messages he received. However, this time Zaha put up a fight back.

Zaha is not alone in fighting racism from netizens. Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku says social media CEOs need to meet football stars to eliminate harassment by netizens.

“I have to fight not only for myself. I fight for my son, my future children, my brother, and for all the players and their children. You know I fight for everyone,” he said. Lukaku.
