Van Gerwen loses and is not a major winner for the first time since 2011

Players Championship Finals: dress rehearsal World Cup often prey for Van Gerwen

The Players Championship Finals (PCF) was held in Minehead, England, and was the final tournament of a series of smaller tournaments. Thirty floor tournaments were held throughout the year, the so-called Players Championships.

The 64 best players in those thirty tournaments, including 11 Dutchmen, played for almost 120,000 euros, so won by Peter Wright. Michael van Gerwen was the champion in the last two editions. He won the PCF a total of six times, a record.

The PCF was the final showdown before the World Cup, which starts on December 15 in London. The World Cup final will be played on January 3, 2022 and therefore falls in the ‘next’ darts season.
