Tiger Woods clarifies: “Never play full-time golf again, I will choose tournaments” | golf

The comeback of the 45-year-old ex-number one in the world will probably not be for tomorrow. Woods overspeeded his SUV in February. His right leg and ankle was shattered, there were big question marks behind his further golf career.

It’s taking Woods away now. More than a week ago, he shared a short video clip showing him hitting golf balls again on the course.

Today, the American, who admitted to initially fearing an amputation, explained his medical and physical status. A full-time comeback is out of the question. “It’s certainly realistic that I will one day return to the PGA Tour, but never full-time again. It will be a matter of careful choice,” explained the 15-time major winner.

Woods has won 82 professional tournaments in his career. From 2014 to 2017, he was also out for a long time due to various back and knee operations. In 2019 he crowned that comeback with his fifth title in the Masters, his last major title to date.

A return is not immediate, however. Woods: “I’m not even halfway through the rehabilitation process. After my back problems, I felt I had to climb Mount Everest to get back to top level. I had to do that and I did.”

“I don’t think I will be able to conquer Mount Everest again with my current constitution. I will have to choose. That is an unfortunate reality, but it is my reality. I am at peace with it and accept it.”

“I don’t need to play against the best players in the world to have a good life.”

Woods makes his first public appearance this week since his crash at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, a tournament that raises funds for Woods’ foundation.
