The farewell of Caja in Varese

The sixth day goes to archive with Milan confirming itself in command, alone, after having mistreated Sassari for 79-50, in a match that saw the men under Cavina’s orders not being able to find the way to the basket with continuity and not never being able to counter the hosts in rebounds, a statistic in which they will eventually be almost doubled. A performance to forget for the guests, who have found their former coach Pozzecco, so loved by the public and his players. A little less, perhaps, from President Sardara. Nothing serious for Sassari who did not expect to have to win in Milan, but the way in which the defeat came without ever having worried the Olimpia players was bad.

In the wake of Milan there is Brindisi who struggles not a little (81-80 the final result) to win against a Reyer who is starting to find herself, but who still does not have the consistency of performance required by all the men in the group. Trieste also struggles, which together with Treviso reaches Virtus di Bologna at 8 points, after the victory obtained against Naples, not very concrete in the last quarter, when instead the hosts tighten in defense and find the way to the basket more consistently. Bad for the weekend of Fortitudo and Varese, who are clearly defeated against Brescia and Treviso, remaining at the bottom of the standings at two points together with Pesaro, whose treatment Banchi still does not seem to have an effect and who lost at home to Trento.

Virtus Bologna and freshmen

Tortona’s victory over Virtus Bologna, which in Piedmont conceded 93 points, scoring only 76 points. The second and third quarters were decisive, where Tortona tightens the shirts in defense and detaches the opponents, unable to react and to get out of the rhythm imposed by the opponents in the last ten minutes of play. A dream for Tavernelli, Mascolo and Filloy, who talk about a magical atmosphere in home games and unexpected results that, in fact, make you dream. The thoughts in the Virtus house are quite different, to which the newly promoted must go really indigestible and that, net of a list of injured people worthy of a rugby team, one cannot appeal to absences to justify a behavior bordering on renouncing, especially in defense, which also seems to compromise the development of the game in attack. To find the causes and resolve the situation, Scariolo decided to work on it, eliminating the post-match day of rest and closing the team in the gym for what, more than a punishment, seems a cry of alarm.

Caja, Reggio and Varese

Heavy setback for Reggio Emilia who loses and is reached 6 points by Brescia, opponent of the day. During the week Attilio Caja, coach of the Reggio players had been the protagonist of a long-distance controversy with Andrea Conti, former GM (resigning) from Varese. The coach who opened fire in a radio interview, referring to the last experience on the bench in Varese, had reported a continuous lack of respect towards him, up to the point of talking about his dismissal, which occurred following a his outburst in the coaching room, caused by Conti’s behavior. Conti’s response was not long in coming, with the GM declaring that Caja missed an opportunity to act like a lord. The feeling is that the continuous declarations of Bulgheroni and Conti, against Caja and to which the coach from Pavia never replied until he was on the Varese payroll, have not been forgotten. And that now that Conti is no longer an employee of Varese Caja has taken advantage of a question from a journalist to remove a few stones from his shoes. Nobody comes out well, Caja on the one hand and the Varese management on the other, who apparently have not yet learned that nothing should ever come out of the locker room, especially in a small world like that of the Italian Serie A, in which before or then it always comes back to having to deal with the same people.
