Official: Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard new Aston Villa coach
At Liverpool, Steven Gerrard became a legend on the pitch. Now he has taken his first job as a coach in the Premier League.
Steven Gerrard is Aston Villa’s new manager. The English first division team officially announced this on Thursday. The 41-year-old will succeed Dean Smith at the Birmingham club, who had to leave after more than three years.
Gerrard became a legend as a player at Liverpool FC and began his coaching career in the youth department of the Reds. In 2018 he went to the Rangers in Glasgow, with whom he won the Scottish championship unbeaten last season.
Gerrard: “I’m extremely proud”
“Aston Villa is a club with a long history and tradition. I am extremely proud to be the head coach here,” said Gerrard.
And the club was also delighted with the commitment: “In our conversations it became clear that Stevens’ ambitions, his philosophy and his values completely match those of Aston Villa,” said club boss Christian Purslow.
