The city will be celebrating this May 15, 2024 for the passage of the Olympic flame in Perpignan. Here is the program.
“The passage of the Olympic flame is a lot of constraints, but above all it is a great celebration“, recalls Sébastien Ménard, city deputy for sports.
The Perpignan stage of the flame will begin at the sports park at 6:15 p.m. It is here that the municipality has chosen to concentrate its activities. “If we had had to organize them along the entire route, the cost of securing them would have been too high.“, assures the elected official.
This May 15 in the morning, until 11:30 a.m., this “sport lung” will be freely accessible. From 11:30 a.m., a security team will be in place to control entrances. From 2 p.m., the park will be celebrating. “Nineteen clubs in the city will provide demonstrations and initiations for everyone,” presents Sébastien Ménard.
Fans can try archery, judo, taekwondo, table tennis, fencing, volleyball, handball, badminton, 3×3 basketball, breakdancing, boxing, rugby five, modern pentathlon, baseball, football, American football (flag) and skateboarding. Notice to the bravest: a cross fit course will be led by the army.

The party will also be at the flame’s arrival point. The Palace of the Kings of Majorca will open to the public from 3:30 p.m. The Department, which organizes this part of the event, will offer several sports demonstrations lasting 20 to 25 minutes.
Spectators will be able to observe para-judo thanks to the Judo Entente Canohès Toulouges. But also watch sequences of foil and epee attacks, by the Perpignan Roussillon Escrime club. The UNSS sports sections and the Canet rhythmic gymnastics club (including seven groups qualified for the French Championships) will present the different forms of rhythmic gymnastics practice. The players of the National 12-17 year old team of the Handball Club Thurinois will play 4×4 matches.
Information stands on these different parts will also be set up.
The official sponsors of Paris 2024 will also be there to liven up the party. Many goodies could be distributed to the lucky ones.
