The Czechs thus have a good opportunity to advance to Friday’s semifinals. To do this, they need to beat Switzerland on Thursday, but theoretically they have a chance even in the event of a loss. It will also depend on Tuesday’s match between the Germans and the Swiss.

Twenty-two-year-old Vondroušová took Petkovic’s performance right at the beginning, then lost her service, but otherwise dominated the court. Traditionally, she read the game well, disassembled her opponent and added an exact lob or ace to her favorite shorts. “The shorts were good and overall I don’t have a template game, I rather play intuitively how I feel,” she said. The set was won by an opponent after a double mistake.

Before the second set, she slapped Captain Pála and continued at the set pace. She quickly led 3: 0 and relied on an excellent serve, she also gave two aces in gamma. “The submission held me, too,” she said. Without hesitation, she brought the match to a victorious end. In the end, Petkovic had tears in her eyes. “She fought to the last ball, she didn’t give me anything for free. I played well and it was important that I kept it in my head,” said Vondroušová, who won her fourth singles in a competition of five duels.

Markéta Vondroušová was nervous from the morning, but in the end she really enjoyed the match

“I wanted to win a lot and I have to say that I was very nervous before the match, but after a few games it dropped out of me. I played my game, I tried my best and I enjoyed it. I’m excited that I managed it and that’s how it turned out, “Vondroušová said on the court.

Krejčíková was in pain

The winner Roland Garros Krejčíková started great and led 3: 0, but did not keep the lead and suddenly lost in long exchanges. With the help of the audience, she fought and gradually bravely deflected three sets – the first at 4: 5, the other two two games later. She forced a tie break, in which, as in the set, she did not maintain a 3-0 lead, but eventually won the set after Kerber’s double mistake.

Krejčíková started the second set badly, her movement worsened and she made a mistake. Apparently she fought health problems, did not catch up with the balls and in the second set she got canary. Then she was treated. “I couldn’t bounce back, the interior hurts,” she told physiotherapist Pavel Kovac on the court.

In the decisive third set, she lost 1: 3, but she was able to equalize with 3: 3 and listened to the long applause of the audience. However, the former number one Kerberová tirelessly returned one ball after another, the Czech Republic spoiled and lost the pass to 3: 4. At 4: 5, she still had a breakball to prolong the match, but Němka sent the ball to the line and immediately Krejčíková lost the match.

“I fought one hundred percent and I don’t think I have anything to be ashamed of,” Krejčíková said. “It was great, even though I didn’t succeed. How the hall roared, how we pulled and everyone stood behind me. I really enjoyed it and my tennis got better and better because of that. It was a pity that I didn’t get it in the end “I missed playing two balls differently and I could have been a little happier.”

She also wanted to play doubles, but the team decided to be replaced by Hradecká. “Of course, it drew me to the court, but I believe that the girls will take the point and I will save my strength for the next matches,” said Krejčíková. “Now we’ll leave it alone and deal with the next day. The most important thing is to get a good night’s sleep, gain energy to be as ready as possible for the next matches,” she said.

Siniaková and Hradecká played a great season together in 2017. They advanced to the finals five times in doubles, including the grand slam US Open, and were injured by Hradecká’s injury in the Champions Tournament. They had something to build on, while the Germans played together for the first time, but they bothered the Czech couple a lot.

In the first set, it was decided that the home pair took Niemeier’s serve in the seventh game. In the second, Siniaková and Hradecká lost 1: 4, although they equalized a step, but in that tie they quickly lost 0: 5 and did not turn the development around. In the super tie break, Hradecká initially served on the network. The Czechs led 8: 4, then had their opponents reduced to 8: 7, but Siniaková smashed the match with a smash. The first has not yet been released, but during the second the Hradec Králové match has already ended.

“In the super tie break, the tactic was to attack and be active, because we didn’t start well in the tie break before and we ran away. I’m glad we managed it,” Hradecká breathed. “It was about a few balls and I’m glad I was involved,” Siniak added.

The French defending champion lost the title

The French, the last winners of the Fed Cup in 2019, as the competition used to be called, unexpectedly lost in Group A to Canada 1: 2 in matches.

The Canadians lack in the new model of the World Team Championship, which is played by twelve teams in the Czech capital, the finalist of this year’s US Open Leylah Fernandezová and the previous year’s winner of the New York Grand Slam Bianca Andreescuová. Even Captain Heidi El Tabakh, who is getting married, could not come. She is replaced by Sylvain Bruneau, Captain of Canada from 2010 to 2018.

Canada’s first point was scored by the 353rd world player Francoise Abanda, who defeated Fiona Ferro, who took precedence over the position of Caroline Garcia in the number two position. Then Rebecca Marinová lost in the duel of ones with Alizé Cornetová and the doubles decided. In that world number five, Gabriela Dabrowská and Marinová lost 6: 4 and 7: 6 to Cornetová and Clara Burelová.
