Jürgen Klopp is in the last 16 of the Champions League with Liverpool: The English beat Atlético Madrid 2-0. In the second game of Group B there was no winner between AC Milan and FC Porto.
Jürgen Klopp moved into the eighth finals of the Champions League prematurely with Liverpool FC as group winners. The 2-0 (2-0) against Atlético Madrid was Liverpool’s fourth win in their fourth game. The home side’s success already took shape in the first round after Diogo Jota scored with a head (13th) and Sadio Mané (21st). In addition, the Spanish champions weakened themselves through Felipe’s red card (36th). After the break, hits were not recognized on either side.
In the second game of Group B there was no winner between AC Milan and FC Porto. With the 1: 1 (0: 1) Milan’s chances of reaching the round of 16 dwindle. The Portuguese took the lead through Luis Diaz (6th), before Chancel Mbemba scored in their own goal and gave the bottom of Group B the first point (61st).
Real Madrid surpassed a historic goal mark in their 2-1 (1-1) win against Shakhtar Donetsk. The French international Karim Benzema managed a brace (14./62.). His 1-0 result was a special hit, because it was Madrid’s 1000th premier class goal.
Real consolidated their top position in Group D with their third win and now nine points. Toni Kroos and David Alaba started with Real. The former Bayern professionals were not involved in Benzema’s goals. Donetsk, however, showed a courageous performance, but nothing more than Fernando’s interim equalizer did not jump out (39th).
Sporting outclassed Besiktas
FC Sheriff Tiraspol lost 3-1 (0-0) against Inter Milan. Moldova’s champions can still dream of progressing with six points, but the Italians slip past the table thanks to goals from Marcelo Brozovic (54th), Milan Skriniar (66th) and Alexis Sanchez (82nd). Adama Traoré’s final point in stoppage time was not enough for Sheriff.
Sporting Lisbon brought in a clear victory. In the 4-0 (3-0), the Portuguese Besiktas Istanbul left no chance and moved behind Ajax Amsterdam, which Borussia Dortmund defeated 3-1 (0-1) away, thanks to the better goal difference to second place.
In addition, Manchester City had a hard time in the 4-1 (1-1) against Club Bruges. First, John Stones equalized with an own goal (18th) after Phil Foden’s lead (16th) for Bruges. Riyad Mahrez (54th), Raheem Sterling (72nd) and Gabriel Jesus (90th + 3) released the English after the break. Last year’s finalist overtook Paris Saint-Germain in Group A, which had to be content with a 2-2 (2-1) at RB Leipzig.
