Axelsen and Gemke play in the semifinals in Indonesia – Ekstra Bladet

The Danish badminton players continue to stand out in the Super 1000 tournament Indonesia Open.

On Friday, men’s singles Rasmus Gemke and Viktor Axelsen played in the semifinals with victories in two sets.

Gemke won with the numbers 21-18, 21-17 over Japanese Kenta Nishimoto, who is number 17 in the world. The Dane ranks as number 13.

Axelsen did in his quarterfinal short process against Indian Sai Praneeth, who was beaten 21-12, 21-8 without any problems.

The Danish Olympic gold winner was very sharp, sat on the match from the first ball and at times looked like the very best version of himself. Praneeth could not keep up with the Dane’s pace at all.

Axelsen will face sixth-seeded Jonatan Christie from Indonesia in his semifinal.

Axelsen and Gemke thus join the mixed doubles Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje in the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament. They won earlier Friday over an Indonesian pair in three sets.

In the semifinals, Rasmus Gemke could have faced Danish opposition.

But experienced Hans-Kristian Vittinghus lost his quarterfinal against Kean Yew Loh from Singapore, who now meets Gemke instead.

Vittinghus lost the first set 9-21 and was clearly very far from his normal level as he reluctantly lost the second set by 4-21.

Early Friday Danish time, Anders Antonsen had to withdraw from his quarterfinals with a muscle injury.

A big Danish quarterfinal day in Indonesia ends with the men’s doubles Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen meeting a Japanese couple.
