Novak Djokovic has confidently advanced to the semifinals of the Geneva Open. The Serbian world number 1 also benefited from recharged batteries in his 7:5, 6:1 victory against the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor. Griekspoor (ATP 27) had to finish his interrupted round of 16 match against Denis Shapovalov in the morning.
In the first round of the duel with Djokovic, Griekspoor still had a sniff of the set lead. The 27-year-old earned three set points when the score was 5:4 and Djokovic was serving. However, the Grand Slam record winner, with his usual strong nerves, fended off all chances with his serve and took Griekspoor’s serve himself in the following game. A little later, he secured the first set.

In the second set, the Dutchman’s resistance was over. Djokovic led 4-0 early on and converted his first match point after 1 hour and 17 minutes. On paper, the 37-year-old now faces an easier task. In the semifinals, he will face the Czech Tomas Machac (ATP 44), who beat Alex Michelsen (ATP 65/USA) in two sets.
