2021 Brazilian GP F1 Qualification: Hamilton Pole, Second Verstappen

São Paulo

Lewis Hamilton performed excellently in the 2021 Brazilian GP F1 Qualification. The Mercedes GP driver took pole position, ahead of Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen.

After being the fastest in the first free practice session, Hamilton continued to step on the gas in the qualifying session at the Interlagos circuit, Saturday (11/13/2021) early morning WIB. Qualification is required to determine the position in the sprint race.

Hamilton led the Q1 and Q2 sessions before continuing his dominance in Q3. He was still the fastest to finish the session with a time of 1 minute 07.934 seconds, 0.438 ahead of Verstappen.

Verstappen could not improve his record time on the second chance to go down in Q3 so he had to settle for starting from second position. In third position is Valtteri Bottas who made a time of 1 minute 08.469 seconds.

Completing the top five were Red Bull Racing’s other driver Sergio Perez and Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly. The Ferrari duo, Carlos Sainz Jr. and Charles Leclerc, only starting from sixth and seventh positions.

Lando Norris, Daniel Ricciardo, and Fernando Alonso are in eighth to tenth positions respectively. Even though he won pole position, Hamilton might be punished to start from the grid for allegedly abusing DRS.

The case was immediately investigated by the FIA stewards after the qualifying session.
